sonnyboy says : I used Niak on a solo snowshoeing trip in the French/Swiss Jura mountains. No problem shaking of snow and ice from the flysheet. It could easilt carry a heavy snowburden and the materials did\'nt harden at -25 degrees celsius. It\'s a great tent for wintercamping and less suitable in warmer conditions.

Earl says : The Niak is a great tent , although not for the inexperienced campers. This tent is perfect for those trips away where one needs comfort yet strength and weight advantages. 10 out of 10 !

Robbo says : I took the Niak on a solo cycle trip through Europe, Paris to Rome then to Berlin via Switzerland. I found the Niak a good weight to carry on the bike, easy to pitch and enough room with gear inside. I did have one issue with the design of the door. But now by pulling the ground sheet back at the door area and zipping the door half mast it completely makes for a practical vestibule area for cooking etc. I now know this tent is no longer being manufactured and have heard conflicting stories about Niak. When a company makes a tent that has a weight to design ratio ,I believe there will a few querky areas on the design. This being where the men are seperated from the boys or the townies from the experienced outdoorsman. I rate this tent well and look forward to many more trips ahead.

Roski says : A superb all-weather/ all seasons tent - comfort for 2, luxury for 1. Superb Hilleberg build quality with effective ventilation, multi entry options and excellent storage space. Stands alone but equipped with doubled-up guy lines making it rock steady even in a howling gale - as experienced on kayak trip in Hebrides last year. Packs small and has great strength to weight ratio at 2.5 kgs.
I have an experience with the Niak I want to share!

Strong and compact

The Niak is an all-purpose tent for those enjoying “roughing it”. This tent presents itself in all simplicity and versatility to two people or the solo user. It answers to the desire of people to use an all weather dome tent with the low weight that is not often found with this design. Snowy conditions and autumn winds are braved with indifference.Anywhere between towering heights in the mountains and a weekend by your favourite lake this little performer will ensure that you live and sleep in safety and comfort.

There is a small storage area behind the inner tent, accessible from the inside only.

Under the safety of the roof cover there are panels of uncoated fabric allowing rising warm and moist air to escape.

Definitely an advantage in the hills or other places where a difficult terrain can be expected: only three pegs are needed to pitch the Niak – but whenever possible more pegs and the lines will make it safer in case the wind picks up without you noticing it.

Pitching the Niak:

In contrast to our other dome tents the Niak has only two poles and therefore single pole sleeves, as with our tunnel tents. You insert one pole into the full depth of one sleeve and do the same with the other pole. Then place the ends of the poles into the pole tensioners and pull the webbing of the tensioner until the cup is placed against the outer tent fabric. Place at least three pegs (two at the vestibule and one on the back of the tent) to stake out the vestibule. Remember to also peg the guy lines if there is risk for upcoming wind.

Pitching of inner tent requires extra pole holders -see accessories.

Niak advantage:

• Outer tent fabric in Kerlon 1800

• Inner tent fabric in repellent and venting nylo.

• Heavy duty nylon ground sheet with PU coating, high bathtub floor

• Pole sleeves with one opening only with room for “double poling”

• Pole tensioners wide enough for “double poling”

• Two poles of equal length

• Adjustable peg loops

• Full size no-see-um netting in near-vertical inner tent entrances (with covering panel)

• Very spacious vestibule for (wet) gear, meals, etc. and smaller vestibule with access from the inside

• Adjustable vent, protected from the weather

• Linked inner and outer tents which pitch sumultaneously – both can also be pitched separately

• Two strong guy line attachments and double line runners on each side/pole sleeve

• Loops for clothes line and pockets in the inner tent.
