+ I CAN ANSWER!   gthdreamer asks : is there any one who can repair a fly sheet or make a new flysheet for a blacks mountain tent using material that is sympathetic to the original look of the tent
NJ says : I \'inherited\' one of these tents and I love it. People would laugh at it but it was always me that was laughing in the morning when their tents had blown away! Mine had belonged to Cumbria Youth Services and I got it in the 1980\'s was still using it late 90\'s and I\'m going to let my Scouts try it out this summer.

rik_uk3 says : I had the Ventile model with flysheet, bought in @1970. Stood up to any weather Snowdonia could throw at it, never failed. It became another victim of damp storage, when a friend says \"of course I packed it dry\" CHECK it yourself.

Geoff says : Together with the fly sheet this tent served me well, successfully with standing gale force winds and torrential rain in Glencoe for several years. Even in high winds it was an easy tent to erect. Worthy of use anywhere in the country and in any weather.

Mike says : Bought one of these tents in Ventile fabric (more expensive than the Protex version) from Ellis Brigham in 1964 for the grand sum of £17/17s/6d. Weighed in at 13lbs when dry. Provided perfect shelter for 10+ years of use in UK and Alps. Sadly damp storage caused the rot to set in and all I have now are the aluminium poles and fond memories. By the way the Blacks Mountain Tent model was not used on Everest but was "de rigeour" for any aspiring mountaineer in the 60s.

Manufacturers Product Spec

It is a single skinned tent, believed to be designed for high altitude climbing, made of Egyptian cotton.

It has two ‘A’ frame poles which are held together by the guy ropes at each end, with a, what looks like a ridge made of rope. The door is a tunnel, again designed for snow conditions with vent tunnels above the door and one on the back wall of the tent. There are three guys down each side and one on the rear of the tent plus two main guys. All around the tent are flaps which rocks or snow can be placed to add stability. Inside at the front of the tent the ground sheet has popers on which will allow a section of the ground sheet to be folded back to so cooking can be done on the snow and not allow the ground sheet to be messed up while cooking is done.
